SUMMARY
Christians should avoid any influence from the ministry and teaching of T.D. Jakes. We learn a lot about the theology, doctrine, and teaching of Jakes by the teachers he endorses. He endorsed Bill Winston who says Jesus died to pad our wallet and fill our bank account. Scripture clearly says such people know nothing, are conceited, puffed up, and have depraved minds and are deprived of the truth. Such a ringing endorsement from Jakes is a warning sign to keep away from Jakes.

EXPLAINED

On May 8, 2017, the Twitter account of T.D. Jakes promoted MegaFest 2017.

T.D. Jakes on Twitter. This isn't just another festival, its an EXPERIENCE your ENTIRE family can enjoy! Make this is a Summer to remember! https.--t.co-Rsf4crqEgb https.--t.co-T0j90y

The Twitter account of T.D. Jakes describes this as a conference the entire family can enjoy. He is clearly giving the conference and those speaking at the conference a resounding endorsement.

This endorsement by Jakes should be a warning sign. His endorsement shows us the kinds of theology, doctrine, and teaching he supports.

For example, let’s look at Bill Wintson.

Bill Winston has written a book titled Redeemed From Poverty.

Winston claims Christians are exempt from poverty in his book.

As part of your redemptive right as a Born Again Believer, you are exempt from poverty. In this teaching on Redeemed from Poverty, you will find that you have available to you the material blessings of Abraham. You are an heir of Abraham, because you are the seed of Abraham according to Romans 4:13 through the righteousness of faith.

He’s saying freedom from poverty is part of the redemption Jesus accomplished on the cross. In other words, he’s saying, Jesus shed his blood and died so you can have more money in your wallet. This is the type of teacher T.D. Jakes is praising. Warning sirens about T.D. Jakes should be going off in your head right now.

This teaching cheapens the blood of Jesus. Did Jesus really die so our wallet could be padded and our bank account filled?

What does scripture say about teachers who say the Gospel is about increasing our material wealth?

Scripture says such people are puffed up with conceit, understand nothing, have depraved minds, and are deprived of the truth.

Teach and urge these things. If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the soundb]”>[b] words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, andc]”>[c] we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 Timothy 6:2-10 (ESV)

Why is T.D. Jakes supporting a teacher who understands nothing, is puffed up with conceit, and has a depraved mind?

Let’s look further.

Does the lifestyle of an inspired author of scripture align with the false teaching that Jesus died so we wouldn’t be in poverty? Let’s look at what the apostle Paul experienced.

11 To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless, 12 and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; 13 when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things. 1 Corinthians 4:11-13 (ESV)

Paul said he was hungry, thirsty, poorly dressed, and homeless. Did Paul have a darkened mind that couldn’t grasp the truth that Jesus shed his blood so he could be rolling in money? I think we know the answer. We do know who has the darkened mind.

Let’s look at a scripture passage the know nothing, mind depraved false teachers use to support their nonsense. This video of Bill Winston will be our example.

13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirite]”>[e] through faith. Galatians 3:13-14

The know nothing, puffed up, conceited, depraved mind looks at the scripture above and thinks of the wallet and bank account. The blessing Jesus died for isn’t for lots of money, it’s the blessing of being reconciled to God through Jesus.

This endorsement by T.D. Jakes is not inconsequential. It tells us the type of theology, doctrine, and teaching he affirms. This should serve as a warning sign to all Christians to get away from any influence of T.D. Jakes in their life. This is a call to repentance for all who hold to this know nothing, conceited, depraved teaching. Ask God to grant repentance while you still have time.
